Keeping a Mosquito-Free Yard This Summer
In Summer, we're all looking forward to evenings spent around the fire pit, patio swing, or outdoor kitchen. However, mosquitoes frequently crash the party—they're more than a headache.
Mosquitoes are one of the most deadly arthropods on the planet because they may transmit a variety of diseases to both humans and animals. During the summer, mosquitoes can mature from egg to adult in as fast as seven to eight days.
Make Your Backyard Less Inviting
Eliminating their hiding places can get rid of attracting them. Removing tall grasses, wooden areas, and still water can help prevent them from reproducing and hiding.
Get Rid of Still Waters
In water, a single mosquito can lay up to 200 eggs. As a result, any standing water, particularly after a rain, might be a concern.
Clogged gutters, ditches, and household items that might collect water, such as children's toys, pet food or water dishes, birdbaths, or old tires, are common backyard culprits.
It's as simple as removing the objects or emptying and refilling the water every five to seven days to eliminate these spots.
Regularly cleaning and sanitizing your pool by running the filter and chlorinating it will prevent mosquito larvae from growing.
Ask for Help
If you've grown discouraged from spending time in your yard due to a large number of mosquito bites, or if you see swarms of mosquitoes daily, it's time to call in the experts.
If you don't take care of your mosquito problem, you and your guests could be in significant danger. Mosquitoes can spread the West Nile virus, St. Louis encephalitis virus, La Crosse virus, or Eastern equine encephalitis virus, depending on where you are in the United States. Because there is no vaccination or antiviral treatment for some of these viruses, experts advise maximizing your protection strategies.
